My Marriage to the (Digital) Man of My Dreams – Brynjolf

The marriage ceremony in Skyrim is pretty brief. However, I decided I would play it to the hilt. My character, Sarina, is a “now and forever” sort of girl. She’s only getting married once (although I had to play the ceremony multiple times to get all the screenshots – thank the divines for prior save points). So, I went all out. Spent several days looking for mods to find the prettiest dress for me and a perfect outfit for him. I also had my four closest friends in attendance as my bridesmaids. Since I did the Thieves Guild quest line before any others, those four were Sapphire, Karliah, Illia (picked up along my adventures with Sapphire), and my House Carl, Iona. Illia and Iona played nice, but Karliah wasn’t following me properly for some reason, so she isn’t in all of the screenshots below. Oh, well. In the end, I’m still (digitally) married. 🙂

The Proposal

In my role playing, Brynjolf and I couldn’t get married right away after I become Guild Master because someone wanted me dead. He had avoided me (he doesn’t really interact with you in the game except to ask how you are until you become Guild Master) because he thought that I was too good for him. He was still burned from an ex-girlfriend and was afraid to fall in love. Or, rather, he was afraid to admit it to me that he had already fallen in love. However, after adventuring with Sapphire and Illia and telling them my woes, Sapphire arranged for Brynjolf and I to have a moment alone together after the ceremony, in my office. (Yeah, I don’t actually have an office, although I do have a desk and there is a separate room added by a mod.) Due to her manipulation, and my willingness to wear my heart on my (armored) sleeve, we were sort of forced to admit how we feel about each other.

So, after we expressed our love for each other, he then showed me the anonymous letter he had received, threatening to have me killed if he was to pursue a relationship with me. Someone had it out for him and wanted him to be miserable. Well, we had no choice at this point except to pretend we had a final fight and I threatened to leave Riften and abandon the Guild. Sapphire was upset that we hadn’t made up, but when I showed her the letter she understood why I had put on the act.

Brynjolf and I then met up outside of town to track down the person who sent the letter. (Meaning I then took him as a follower and we headed out of town to adventure together.)

Well, we found her (or at least a bandit hideout and killed some baddies together – there may have been a couple of wolves killed in there too). That night, we were quite tired and didn’t have the oomph to return to Riften in the dark. We decided to camp for the night instead. As we had eliminated the threat to my life, who turned out to be the bitter ex-girlfriend – she had decided she shouldn’t have given him up after all – we had a quiet moment to discuss our future.

*Note, because Brynjolf isn’t able to be married without modding the game, there wasn’t any recorded dialog for the proposal, or the wedding. In the screenshots below, I’ve added into the caption what he says “out loud.” Also, I so would have sat closer to him (that’s my head in the bottom middle with the arrows on my back), but the game wouldn’t allow me to get any closer. I also have no idea why he’s actually floating above the ground. A glitch with the camping mod, I presume.

So, I asked him if he was interested in me….

What he says out loud: “I can’t think of anyone better.”

Listen:

Of course I say “yes.” (Although if you say no, his response out loud, is “No, it can’t be!” His face falls too and he sounds truly upset.)

Listen (to the “no”):

What he says out loud: “Quickly, we have no time to lose.” At which point the next part of the quest popped up and he stood up. Presumably to head back to town and talk to Maramal about arranging our wedding.

Listen:

He gave me my engagement ring and I happily put it on. He purchased it on the sly, before leaving town to keep up the appearances of us permanently parting ways. (Meaning I had conveniently purchased it from Madesi in Riften before we left.)

So, the next morning Brynjolf and I went back to Nightingale Hall to tell Karliah we were getting married and ask her to be a bridesmaid (in other words to find her so I could take her as my follower.) We then headed back to town.

The four bridesmaids and I then went dress shopping. We had to go to two stores, the first for the dresses, shoes, and my earrings. The second store was to pick up the groom’s outfit.

I decided on my dress, makeup, and jewelry (including the circlet on my head), and went to the Temple Of Mara to arrange my wedding. It was 9:45 at night. I then got my bridesmaids dressed (tweaked their options and enabled the outfit), dressed the groom, and then hung out for several hours until it was time for the wedding.

At which point, Brynjolf left for our wedding (a caption popped up “your follower has left for your wedding” and he walked out the door.) I did a final check of everything and the girls and I headed for the temple (what a pain that was since Sapphire kept disappearing – apparently the game wanted her actually at the wedding without her being my follower – and Karliah disappeared for no particular reason.  I think it’s because I have a mod to add her as a custom follower and she doesn’t really “work” completely with the follower mod I use.)

I entered the temple, the girls took seats (sort of) and the ceremony started.

*Note, at this point the game took over and I wasn’t able to move myself. Otherwise, I would have looked at my groom during the ceremony. Don’t know why that isn’t coded into the game. Sheesh. At least he looked at me.

Getting Ready

Doing my makeup and hair…

Pre-Ceremony Jitters

What he says out loud: “This is enough to make your head spin, eh?”

The Ceremony

I “walk down the aisle.”
Look at Sapphire in her pretty dress sitting right behind him. 🙂
And…this was from a different play through of the wedding because now Iona is right behind him, Illia on the end, and Sapphire is in the next row back. Oi Vey.
And there’s Karliah standing wearing her bow and arrows. That was the only way I could get her to wear the dress and not “lose” her regular armor. But, at least in this play through she’s still at the wedding.
“This life and the next” – as we serve Nocturnal, a demi-goddess; “In prosperty and poverty” – we’re not likely to be broke – we are thieves after all; “In joy and hardship” – in good fights and those that require reverting to a prior save point…
Brynjolf gets asked the $60 Million question…

To which he responds out loud: “Aye.”

Listen:

Then I get asked the question.
I say my “I do.”
It’s official!
Ooo, shiny! Well, not as shiny as my engagement ring that you can see really well here. 🙂
Sapphire congratulates us and you can see a good view of what my dress looks like at the hem. Have no idea which of my followers left my service at this point. Probably Karliah.

What he says out loud: “You have the ring, well done.” Oooo…he’s already wearing his wedding ring – and with the correct placement!

Listen:

He says out loud: “Then it’s decided.” And…he’s walking out the door. To my house right down the street, I guess.
