Chess Series: Deleted Scene from Bishop/Retta’s point of view of a scene from Back Rank

Want to find out more about how Alecks kept Retta company the day after Anders left town? Or what Retta was thinking while having that conversation with Alecks about the “sizes of things?”

Back Rank parallels the middle portion of Bishop, therefore there is overlap in scenes – Bishop from Retta’s point of view (POV), Back Rank from Alecks’s (or Sedric’s) point of view. This scene was originally written from both Alecks and Retta’s points of view in order to be in both books.

However, I decided that some scenes would only be in one book and referenced in the other in order to avoid so much overlap. The scene from Alecks’s point of view remained in Back Rank, but the scene from Retta’s point of view was deleted. This is that deleted scene.

In Bishop, this scene takes place the first afternoon following Anders leaving town. After Retta is told Anders has left, Sedric leaves the study and Dart stays with her. She speaks to Dart for a bit, then goes to lie down. This scene starts there.
